Banyan Tree Dongguan Songshan Lake is located at the intersection of a Lingnan oasis and serene lakeside scenery. The hotel features 141 spacious guestrooms and suites, along with 18 private villas, and offers a comprehensive range of luxury amenities, including a fitness center and spa, yoga studio, library, meeting rooms, lounge, and restaurants.

For this lighting design project, we were committed to creating a resort hotel that seamlessly integrates with nature while embodying the unique cultural characteristics of Lingnan. By combining lighting with local cultural elements, the design enhances the spatial narrative. As night falls, warm amber lighting interacts with the reflections of trees and foliage on the lake surface, creating a tranquil atmosphere that brings guests a sense of relaxation and comfort for both body and mind.

From the early design stage, we developed tailored lighting solutions for various representative spaces. Based on the specific functions of each scene, different types of lighting, color temperatures, and combinations were applied, ensuring overall harmony and complementing the architectural language of Lingnan style.

Spanning 267 acres, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) campus welcomed its first students and faculty in September, marking its official opening after a three-year development process from planning and design through to construction. This state-of-the-art, carbon-neutral green research and education campus offers an inspiring environment for living, working, researching, and learning. It sets a global benchmark for future higher education campuses in China.

KPF’s design seamlessly blends HKUST(Guangzhou)’s vision with the natural beauty of the site and the surrounding innovation district, creating an innovative campus that fosters both academic and research advancements. The design incorporates sustainable practices, ensuring carbon neutrality and zero water waste, thereby supporting environmental stewardship alongside educational excellence.

Located in Heyuan City, this facility is designed to promote scientific education and awareness among primary and secondary school students. It provides an interactive and engaging environment where students can explore various scientific concepts through hands-on exhibits and educational programs. The center aims to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for science, preparing students for future academic and career opportunities in STEM fields.

Located adjacent to the Xixing Bridge, near the “Lotus Bowl”—the main venue for the 2022 Asian Games—and along the route from Hangzhou Airport into the city, this educational facility faces several design challenges. Surrounded by high-rise residential buildings and elevated highways, the site has an irregular boundary oriented at approximately a 40-degree angle to the southeast, with limited frontage for the campus entrance.

The design team overcame these challenges through a unique layout that not only meets the basic functional requirements of the school but also introduces a new spatial dimension. This innovative approach allows the new space to interact and blend seamlessly with the existing teaching areas, creating limitless functional and spatial possibilities. By doing so, the design ensures that the school can adapt to the changing needs of future primary and secondary education, providing children with a vibrant and inspiring “dream-chasing stage” for their growth.
